997/987 Arid key installation

Disassembly of your existing Porsche key.

On all 997.2 and 987.2 models the transponder is easily accessible and NOT glued to the housing so please ignore this step if you have a 997.2 or 987.2 car.

When transferring your existing keys components into the Arid key, removing the transponder can often be the most difficult part of the process. This is due to the transponder being glued into the body of your original key from factory. Note that your new Arid key will not work without the transponder, so you will need to remove it from the original body without damage. To do this we would recommend sacrificing your original key body by cutting into it.

To do this we recommend a 'box cutter' or 'stanly' style knife with a new blade to cut the plastic around the transponder. Make 3 cuts into the body one on the innermost side of the transponder, as well as one on the left and one on the right. Be sure to cut only into the surrounding glue and plastic shell of your key and NOT into the black plastic transponder pill itself.

Once you have removed the transponder, carefully trim the excess glue from the edges being careful NOT to damage the transponder.

Extra information for 997.2 & 987.2 owners.

On some later 997.2 and 997.2 models porsche have made a minor change to one of the battery connectors. This is not an issue but is something to take note of before installation as you will need to perform a minor alteration to it. (please see the document below) Please also note that this change requires you to use a CR2016 battery and not the CR2025 required on the original Arid key.

Transponder positions.

You may find the key does not unlock your ignition and start your car. This is likely due to the position of the transponder in the housing (the small black plastic rectangle). Simply remove the battery cover using the provided Allen key (through the screw hole as seen in the instructional video) and adjust the position of your transponder. you may need to do this a few times to find the perfect position for your transponder and ignition to communicate.

NOTE* We would recommend keeping the provided Allen key in your car for this reason.

Troubleshooting guide.

Issue - The buttons on my key don't work.

Have you fitted the correct battery? (cr2025 if you have a single prong battery connector and cr2016 if you have a 3 prong battery connector)

If you have a 3 prong battery connector have you performed the relevant battery connector alteration. Link - 997.2 / 987.2 Battery connector alteration guide.

Have you tried bending the battery connector back slightly to release some of the pressure from the circuit board.

Issue - The two halves of my key won't close properly

Have you followed the correct sequence of installation? Once the circuit board is installed into the chassis the button side MUST be installed before the battery side.

Have you correctly followed the transponder position guide? - TRANSPONDER POSITION DOCUMENT. -

Have you ensured that the sticky gel pad included with your key is on the correct side. this should be making contact with the chassis of the key, pushing the transponder outward from the chassis and not stuck to the plastic body of the key.
